Regular use of drains and pipes causes organic matter (like food particles and hair) and other substances like grease to gradually accumulate on the inside walls of the pipes. Eventually, this buildup slows down the normal flow of water and causes most clogs. And when a mass of debris or hair tries to pass through the pipe, it can get stuck and completely stop the normal flow of water.
If water backs up quickly each time it tries to go down the drain, the problem is most likely close to the opening of the drain. Using a clog remover like Professional Strength Liquid-Plumr® Gel Clog Remover will usually do the trick. It has a unique formula that actually cuts through water to attack the clog and destroy it.
Hair clogs often form around the stopper mechanism in the first vertical section (A). Sometimes, debris and hair can get stuck in the trap (B) and create a clog. For the toughest hair clogs, nothing beats Professional Strength Liquid-Plumr® Gel Clog Remover. It torpedoes through the water to dissolve hair and eliminate the clog, fast.
Occasionally, a foreign object stuck in the drain will cause a clog. While a drain opener will provide temporary relief by removing the debris around the foreign object, the object will have to be removed. Buildup in the lateral section of the pipe (C) can also cause a clog. Professional Strength Liquid-Plumr® Foaming Pipe Snake can treat a stopped or slow-running drain and prevent clogs from recurring.
If the drain takes a while to back up, the problem is further down in the drain system. Use a larger quantity of product (32-64 oz.) so it can reach the clog. If this doesn't work, a mechanical treatment like a plumber's pipe snake or rod may be required.
Used regularly, Liquid-Plumr® Regular Strength Clog Remover can keep your pipes free of the buildup that is responsible for most clogs. Just pour a cup of Liquid-Plumr® Regular Strength Clog Remover in every drain, once or twice a month, to keep your pipes clean and free flowing.
